Abstract

This article puts forward a methodology for estimating timing for the removal of shoring on cast-in-place two-way concrete slabs under flexural load, while seeking to guarantee withstanding final and serviceable thresholds during the construction stage. To do this, the development of concrete properties is evaluated at very early ages using the concrete maturity method. Thus, when tensile strength is required at a certain stage in the construction, it is necessary to evaluate the required timing for a new stage of shoring and the removal of shoring for floor slabs at a range of temperatures and for different types of concrete. The conditions for shoring removal are also established from the compressive strength in relation to tensile strength by experimenting with certain formulas. The timing for partial shoring removal for a floor can thus be estimated. Partial shoring removal involves removing formwork and intermediate props (known as "clareado" ["clearing"], a construction practice commonly used in Spain). Timing for complete shoring removal for the floor is established in the same way.
