Abstract
The public space is the common point where culture, education, entertainment, landscape and architecture are intertwined. These public spaces must be generators of sustainable cities since they enhance the quality of life of people by implanting multifunctional spaces that allow the physical, mental, cultural and spiritual development of people. This is why it is sought to demonstrate that it is possible to design urban occupation taking into account the sustainability indicators of public space, so it is essential to guarantee that these spaces used by the community contribute to the generation of quality of life to through human comfort. In addition, it must be taken into account that these public spaces are the reflection of the cultural identity of the place where they are implanted, the sense of belonging and appropriation must be increased to reduce insecurity and abandonment, putting aside the misconception that public space is just a residual green area within the city. Therefore, when strategies based on a methodology of sustainability indicators are implemented in conjunction with the characteristics of the place, it is shown that it is possible to design a public space with better quality indexes (living spaces with environmental, economic and socially effective conditions) within the city of Santiago de Cali.
