Abstract

Recently, we have experienced a significantly increase of electronics devices that enable the development of applications for Internet of Things (IoT). These devices are promoted as complete platforms with a wide range of features offering to satisfy the requirements of the IoT ecosystem. These platforms are mainly embedded systems that additionally require a cloud service for storage and data processing. This article presents the results of a study on the characteristics of the most representative IoT embedded systems and the main platforms for analyzing data in the cloud. In this study the main manufacturers were identified as well as some features of the main development boards available were analyzed, such as the communications protocols used and price. This study can be used as a guiding tool for appropriately selecting a development platform to implement IoT applications.
