Abstract
Objective: To identify the prevalence pattern of electronic cigarette use in adolescents between 13 and 18 years of age in Colombia according to the literature published in the last 6 years. Materials and methods:a systematic literature search was performed using databases such as Pubmed, epidemiological data from the DANE published between 2019-2022 on the prevalence of electronic cigarette use were also taken. The selection process followed the PRISMA guidelines. Results:In the systematic literature review it was found that there is no accurate data on the Colombian population about the use of electronic cigarettes in adolescents aged 13-18 years, however, it is known that the beginning of vape use occurs at early ages and it is the method most used by young people. The DANE in 2019 in the National Survey on Consumption of Psychoactive Substances emphasized that adolescents are the population with the highest prevalence of vaping. Conclusion: In Colombia, there is data up to 2019 on the prevalence of the use of vapers or electronic cigarettes with worrying figures regarding the population between 12 and 17 years of age, this age group being the second with the highest consumption. It is mentioned that during the compilation of bibliography no more recent studies were found to assess how the trend has been in the country, additionally due to the serious implications that this habit can have on health, it is emphasized that it is necessary to create new prevention strategies.
