Abstract
This work studies the scotistic conception of the universal as logical universal and intentional accident, whose cognitive function is understood as the way of apprehension or conception of the essence or nature. The article focuses on analyzing questions 4 and 5 of Scotus commentary on the Isagoge. The article underlines the relationship between Scotus’s approach and the Avicennian theory of the triple status of essence taking into account the background of the Boethian theory of universals. The final moment of the article shows briefly the ontological moment of the universal as it can be seen in the theory of the common nature.
