El Príncipe, de Maquiavelo: Un manifiesto político de la virtù

Abstract

This article deals with a reflection on the concept of virtu in the work of Niccolo Machiavelli as a political manifesto, as long as the thinker Floren-tino strips that concept of the religious and moral connotations inherited from medieval Catholic Christianity, so as to regain the ancient meaning of the virtu. The current crisis of representative democracy, which has ge-nerated the disenchantment of the citizens with politics, and the massive demonstrations of outrage at events such as the Arab Spring, the 15M in Europe, The Occupy Wall Street, the social protests in Brazil and the peasants strikes in Colombia can be used as a context for a contemporary reading of The Prince and the interpretations of such events on the basis of the concept of virtu.
