Abstract
The objective of this article is to consider the use of the notion of popular-intellectual as a possibility to deconstruct the clas-sical notion of the intellectual, based on its relationship with subal-tern sectors, left-wing ideas and spaces for sociability and popular resistance in the first decades of the 20th century. The hypotheses un-fold in two perspectives. On the one hand, from a “more” theoretical place, it is assumed that the notion of intelectual-popular makes it possible to demonstrate the complexity and richness of the relations-hip between the mobilizers of ideas and the popular world itself. On the other hand, from a more historical perspective, it is assumed that the popular-intellectuals at the beginning of the 20th century, who circulated socialist and communist ideas on the continent, did not do so for “party reasons”, but from a more particular and pragmatic perspective. For the historical study we will take the cases of Raúl Eduardo Mahecha from Colombia and Abílio de Nequete from Brazil.
