Abstract
After forty years of existence, the Revista de Interpretación Bíblica Latinoamericana (RIBLA) has established itself on the continent and beyond as a benchmark for biblical interpretation. This article reconstructs, based on hermeneutical methods and a bibliographic review of documentary sources, some of the aspects that shape the synonymous nature of “interpretation” in the journal. The research reviews more than ninety issues published between 1988 and 2023 to identify some clues in the construction of RIBLA’s interpretivehermeneutical profile. The polysemy in the understanding and exercise of hermeneutics by the journal’s authors, and of the word RIBLA, which identifies a geographical region in the Bible, evidences the synonymic fertility of the interpretive character of the publication. RIBLA reaffirms its commitment to an interpretation that serves the fullness of life, reconciliation and solidarity, peace and fraternity, ecology and the common home. It is not a mere exercise in interpreting the Bible, but a radical commitment to universal transformation, the foundation of the synonymic multiplicity and polysemic force that constitutes the character of the category of interpretation. Interpretation with a wealth of meanings and perspectives nourishes and cultivates liberating theological thought in the Latin American context and challenges readers to question their way of believing and acting.
