Abstract

It were determined the components of HIIT in patients with HF, who presented significant improvements in oxygen consumption, quality of life, blood pressure, ventricular ejection fraction, and mortality in patients with HFrEF and HFpEF. A systemic search was carried out in the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases using the PRISMA statement guidelines and descriptors: “Heart failure”, “HIIT”, “Exercise training”, “Cardiac rehabilitation”, combined with each other. the operators “AND” and “OR”. In this systematic review, 20 HIIT articles were found in patients diagnosed with HFrEF and HFpEF, and who presented significant improvements in oxygen consumption, blood pressure, ventricular ejection fraction, and mortality. In conclusion, the recommended HIIT for cardiac rehabilitation in HFrEF and HFpEF is as follow: Duration: 12 weeks. Frequency: three to four times a week. Modality: bicycle or treadmill. Warm-up: 10 minutes at maximum heart rate (MHR) of 30-50%. Core phase: four to five intervals with four-minute high-intensity 80-95% MHR, with three to four intervals with three-minute recovery 35-50% MHR. Cool-down: 10 minutes with FCM between 30-50%.
