Abstract
Objective: Publicize the sociodemographic andgeoreferencing characteristics of the Colombianpopulation with endocarditis during the selected period.Methods: The data were obtained from the IntegratedSocial Protection Information System; Prevalencecalculations per 10,000 inhabitants were performed foreach type of endocarditis and sociodemographic variables.Microsoft Excel® 2016 was used for data analysis with 95%confidence intervals according to the Poisson distribution.Results: A total of 7495 records of endocarditis were foundwith an average rate of 0.31/10,000 inhabitants, the mostfrequent being Valvular Endocarditis (0.1/10,000) andAcute Endocarditis (0.09/10,000). The median for age was51 ± 13.7 years, more frequent in males, between 15-64years. The departments with the highest prevalence ratewere Vaupés and Santander. Conclusions: Endocarditishas shown an increasing trend in recent years with ahigher prevalence in the productive age, so it is considerednecessary to generate public health policies to improvediagnosis and treatment.
