Abstract

Pontificia Universidad Javeriana has been, traditionally, an institution with a face-to-face academic offer, operating during the daytime and mainly oriented to a young population... However, all this is in the process of change. Thus, the present case describes in general terms the development of Virtual Education in Javeriana, at Bogotá campus, and how the trajectory of one of its programs can be observed: the Bachelor of Religious Sciences, virtual modality; from its genesis until what will be its closing moment in 2021. Some findings at the educational, technological and organizational level, derived from this experience, are also declared. All this organizational learning has materialized in a new formative initiative, conceived from its origin as a novel academic program. It will be totally virtual and with a vision that goes beyond frontiers. This program was endorsed -at the beginning of 2019- by the Holy See, to confer in its name ecclesiastical titles of worldwide validity, becoming the nascent Virtual Bachillerato Eclesiástico en Teología (Betemovil). This new institutional educational proposal is now open to all the universal Catholic Church interested in deepening their theological knowledge, taking advantage of the benefits of ICT and the commitment of a teaching community of more than 50 doctors of theology or similar.
