Abstract
Core Messages: Cutaneous malignant melanoma accounts for the vast majority of the skin cancer deaths. Early recognition of melanoma presents the best opportunity for cure. A definitive diagnosis or an exclusion of melanoma requires an appropriate biopsy and skilled pathological analysis. Surgical excision of an early stage primary melanoma is the best case scenario in the treatment of this aggressive cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy technique helps establish a more accurate prognosis for the patient and evaluate the necessity for adjuvant surgical or medical treatment. A multidisciplinary approach should be undertaken in patients with metastatic melanoma.
