Abstract
Objective: to describe the knowledge about Cochrane Collaboration work, systematic reviews and attitudes and perceived barriers for using research results and conduct research amongst Colombian anaesthesiologists and Ecuadorian intensive care physicians. Design: cross-sectional survey. Population: 320 random sample of Colombian anaesthesiologists stratified by geographical and 45 convenience sample of Ecuadorian Intensivists. Instrument: a semi structured questionnaire. Results: the general knowledge about systematic reviews and the Cochrane Collaboration was around 80%. Only around 20% of the Colombian anesthesiologists conduct research and almost additional 70% are interested to develop research. The main barriers identified to use original research conducted by others are the time availability and the access to electronic databases. The main barriers identified to conduct their own research are time availability, scarce resources and limited training in methodological issues
