Abstract

The objective of this research study was to identify the required competencies that facilitate the effective performance of human resource managers (HRMs) at industrial manufacturing companies in Cali, Colombia. This qualitative research followed an interactive, well thought-out methodology. All together there were 14 participants, 7 of who are HRM and the remaining 7 their bosses who were all interviewed in depth. According to the results of the interviews, the participants agreed that the most required competency for HRMs was having an understanding of the business. These findings are consistent with the results of recent studies such as one by Brockbank and Ulrich (2006).
