Abstract
Following the new approach, cosmetic use is no longer limited solely to aesthetics, but also incorporates health, well-being, and the comprehensive development of the production chain. For this reason, the chrysalis extract of Bombyx mori L. Hybrid Pilamo 1 is presented as an alternative for topical use. Its compositional analysis revealed 7 fatty acids, primarily oleic acid. β-sitosterol and campesterol were identified, with the first one being quantified; and vitamin E was quantified as (α-tocopherol). The extract exhibited no cytotoxic activity. Additionally, enzyme inhibition assays related to skin ageing, along with cellular analyses, revealed that pre-treatment with the extract increased the viability of HaCaT cells exposed to UVA radiation by 18% at a concentration of 500 µg/mL. According to the results, the obtained chrysalis extract is a potential input for the formulation of dermocosmetic products with photoprotective effect.
