Abstract

This paper critically reviews three sound mapping research works performed in Bogotá, Cali and Medellín. These initiatives suggest positive conceptual developments in artistic practices regarding the soundscape appreciation and discuss listening, cultural identity and intangible cultural heritage from soundart, architecture and interactive cinema. Key concepts of soundscape theory will be examined throughout the text identifying its mentors and its adoption by colombian sound practitioners. Furthermore, some subjective aspects of listening will be raised and confronted with soundscape assumptions in order to recognize a broader scope and find the connections of the projects with some contemporary urban contingencies. Criteria for use of the phonographic media is also taken as an artistic issue, reporting the diversity of colombian sound mapping practices aims and procedures.
