Abstract
Objective: Describe the characteristics of older people aged 90 or older who live in a community, using data from the SABE Colombia (Health, Wellbeing and Aging) survey carried out in 2015. Method: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study of people aged 90 years or older identified in the SABE Colombia 2015 survey was con-ducted. The dependent variable was taken as being 90 years of age or old-er at the time of the survey and the independent variables were distribut-ed into demographics, baseline situation, geriatric syndromes, living alone, associated comorbidities and self-perception of health status. A descriptive analysis of the information and variables of interest was performed and the data were analyzed using the statistical program STATA 16.1 for IOS. Results:Of 567 people evaluated with the inclusion criteria, the mean age was 92.79 (SD 2.87), 59.61 % were women; 98.76 % were affiliated with the SGSSS; 9.70 % live alone. The average number of years of schooling was 3.38 years. Regard-ing the baseline situation, 75.67 % are independent; with a satisfactory nu-tritional status in 66.87 %; Frailty criteria were found in 4.05 % and sarcope-nia in 13.75 %. Fall syndrome occurred in 22.75 %. Cognitive impairment had a prevalence of 17.10 %. The most prevalent comorbidity was cardiovascular disease with 67.19 %. Self-perception of health was 58.02 %. Conclusions: The characteristics of nonagenarians and centenarians living in the community according to the SABE Colombia survey are by a low level of education, being predominantly affiliated with the healthcare system. Additionally, they exhib-it a high level of independence and maintain a satisfactory nutritional status, along with a positive self-perception of health.
