Cálculo de índices de confiabilidad para edificaciones con disipadores tipo TADAS

Abstract

The use of energy dissipation devices has been considered as an alternative for seismic protection of
buildings in LMIC (low-and middle-income countries) in recent years, with TADAS (Triangular
Added Damping and Stiffness) devices being one of the systems with the greatest potential for
application due to their accessibility to the local construction sector in terms of manufacturing and
installation. This study aims to determine the reliability index of 2D low height concrete frames
equipped with TADAS devices located in intermediate seismic hazard zones in Colombia. Initially,
the main sources of uncertainties for buildings with TADAS as reported in the literature are presented.
A total of 3 2D reinforced concrete frames with and without TADAS devices are modeled in the
Opensees software, which are subjected to a chronological nonlinear analysis carried out with
subduction earthquakes consistent with the reference seismic hazard. With the results obtained for
each structure, the reliability index was calculated using Monte Carlo simulation. The results show
that the reliability of the building increases with the inclusion of the dampers.
