Abstract

Astrágalo's special issue on Bogotá joins previous editions dedicated to other cities such as Seville and Delhi, addressing the cultural richness of diverse cities. ‘Bogotá pluriversal’ is aligned with debates on unhealthy, divided and gendered cities, although it leaves relevant topics unaddressed, such as the Manzanas del Cuidado (Apples of Care) or educational initiatives. The call was based on Arturo Escobar's ideas on ontological retooling and pluriversal politics, as well as studies on divided cities by Roberto Fernández, exploring segregation and urban conflict. The vision of Bogotá as a Latin American centre involves rethinking its relationship with the ancestral territory of Bacatá, balancing development and sustainability. The concept of the pluriversal city seeks to include multiple realities and ways of inhabiting, promoting reconnection with the planet through actions such as productive relocation, depatriarchalisation and decolonisation. This edition offers an opportunity to show the current dynamics of Bogotá in the face of Medellín's media prominence, moving away from 20th century modernity to analyse its consequences and propose alternatives in the face of socio-environmental challenges. The city faces problems of conurbation, climate crisis and migratory tensions, which require integrated and diverse solutions. Thus, this partial X-ray of Bogotá exposes realities undergoing transformation and the need to continue to develop and implement alternatives to the challenges facing the city.
