Abstract

In developed countries, urban and regional planning has been a defined field of knowledge and a discipline of professional practice for decades. In Colombia, however, epistemologically this field is still full of uncertainties and intersections with disciplines such as urban design and the environmental field. This paper compiles 45 years of a postgraduate program in Urban and Regional Planning in Bogotá through its self-assessment processes, changes in the study plan and curricular processes before the educational authorities of the country. This story shows how, in the absence of a union of planners and a disciplinary accreditation council in the country, the program has been changing its focus and trying in different ways to meet the academic production required by general and inflexible national standards, that do not consider the particularities of each field. It has been even more challenging that, in the absence of a minimum content required by a professional association, in the last 20 years there has been a process of development of several new programs with different approaches and content that let professionals that were interested in the field in uncertainty, and compromised the sustainability of the existing degrees.
