Abstract

The health of ecosystems today is perhaps the main concern of conservationists, for lotic systems there is an ideal tool for their characterization, however, currently the need to protect ""per se"" is surpassed by urgent issues, such as the relationship that the environment has with the human health of those living near these natural systems. Therefore, a 5-step methodology was designed to determine the relationship between ecosystem health and human health: 1. Identify the state of the water ecosystem (by means of a physical-chemical and biological characterization based on macroinvertebrates and bacterial microbiota). 2. Socio-demographic characterization of the riparian population. 3. Describe the territorial variables that affect the health of the water ecosystem and its influence on human health (by means of landscape ecology). 4. Determine the health index of the water ecosystem and of the riparian population of the Teusaca river (through the participatory construction of the health index of the water ecosystem and of the riparian population of the Teusaca river and its subsequent calculation). 5. Correlating the health of the water ecosystem and the health of the riparian population of the Teusaca river.
