Abstract
The investigation examined the possibility that newspaper articles about plastic-related problems promote environmental behaviors. A textual analysis was carried out on five news items published in the most widely read digital newspaper in Colombia. Informational elements that explicitly indicated a relationship between human behavior and environmental problems were reviewed. In a second moment, sections were identified that would indicate directly and in detail how to act to reduce or stop said problem. Finally, elements were located that could implicitly encourage changes in behavior. It is concluded that some principles for environmental journalism can be an anthropogenic approach, exhaustive information and an educational function that, in addition to raising awareness, calls for action.
