Abstract

A plan is an organized set of activities that are performed to achieve certain goals. Changing environments have multiple requirements: users have diverse needs and preferences, the context may be different for each user, depending on the time, location, and access devices (e.g., mobile devices, desktop computers). Above all, these types of environments have a key element in common: they require the creation of dynamic and adaptive plans, which can address different situations and provide the best set of activities for each user and context. This paper proposes an architecture for the creation of dynamic and adaptive planning systems that can address specific user needs and contexts. This specification encompasses the main components of a planning process and can be translated into more concrete implementations. As part of the validation of this approach, this paper describes the prototyping effort and an ongoing case study of an educational web application.
