Description
This research proposal makes an approach to the return migration problem. This problem has gained importance with the world economic crisis. The crisis has induced restrictive migration policies in the industrial countries. On the other hand, many migrants are now motivated to return to their home countries due to the changes in the macroeconomic situation, mainly the labor market. Despite that the return migration has gained relevance in the national context very little research has been done and the main effects upon the general economic development are still unknown. Therefore the objective of this research is to develop a state of the art on the return migration phenomena and its effects on the economic development, specially through the selfemployment and entrepreneurial initiatives. Secondary sources such as the ILO and World Bank research and publications on the topic will be consulted. This study will be of great relevance for the academic community as it will identify what is known about the return migration topic, areas that lack information and where to focus future research. additionally, research derived from this study will contribute to the formulation and improvement of return migration public policies.
