The collective reincorporation of Ex-combatants in Colombia: Sustainable communities and abandoned spaces

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The 2016 Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and the insurgent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) created 26 camps as secure spaces for combatants to reincorporate into civilian life. Today, these camps, known as Territorial Training and Reintegration Spaces (ETCRs), vary widely in population and sustainability. This project examines the impact of three factors, state provision of services, security threats, and economic opportunities on ETCR stability. The qualitative analysis is based on primary data collection including observations at ETCR sites, and interviews with FARC residing in ETCRs, FARC residing off-site, and residents in surrounding communities.
