Description
This research project explores the main determinants driving the decision to read books and attend libraries in Colombia based on the data provided by the 2008 [2008 Cultural Consumption Survey] project estimates multilevel logistic regressions to reflect the neighbourhood effect concerning the decision to read books and attend libraries, i variables indicating individual characteristics, accumulation of cultural capital, time restrictions and socioeconomic strata. The project contributes to the empirical literature on cultural economics in that it takes accoun most closely exposed and which might impact their observable decision to read books and attend libraries, in the framework of a developing country with a low reading rate and high income disparity. The findings are useful for refining the country’s cultural policy within the framework of the National Reading and Libraries Plan 9. keywords: cultural participation, reading habits, library attendance, multilevel binary logistic model, Colombia.
