Description
Massive popular music production in Cali, Colombia (principally oriented to be broadcasted) is a complex social process framed under three lines: technologic, socioeconomic and cultural. This current research proposal focuses on the analysis of cultural production processes since 1970 through mid `80s: giving special attention to performers, social dynamics and cultural goods. In order to accomplish our goal we will identify and characterize the cultural industry agents involved in the process (such as mass media, record labels, record producers, music events promoters, etc.), as well as analyzing the relationships among them. Local agents and products will also be described with the aim of establishing wider approaches and comprehensions of the productions on this complex panorama. Theoretically this double examination over the general and local -that derives from Pierre Bourdieu categorization proposal (1995) regarding the field of mass and restricted media- wants to go further underlining the importance of this activity along with the transits and in-betweens of both fields.
