Description
Some researches in Spain have concluded that media competence is not systematically evaluated in the educational environment. It has not maximized the critical and creative potential of students who use Communication and Information Technology daily for different purposes including: communication, researching information, computer based learning, entertainment, and so on. This research studies the state of mediatic competence in 14 to 17 years old of both sexes including students in the three last levels of their secondary education from varying public schools in Cali, Buenaventura, Candelaria and Zarzal, in Valle del Cauca. Media competence comprehension will allow us to make proposals in order to design public policies in this part of the country. These policies would claim impact in citizen competence construction based on the critical sense and creativity of the young generation. Dimensions of language, esthetics, ideology and values, audience and reception, media production, and technology will be evaluated. These dimensions were researched 2009-2010 by the Instituto de Tecnologias Educativas (ITE) in 17 of spains attonomous territories. 9
