Description
Eukaryotic genomes are composed of repetitive DNa elements in a considerable proportion. Repetitive DNa elements include the satellite DNa, the major component of heterochromatin. Heterochromatin has a pivotal role in the establishment and maintenance of the centromeric, pericentromeric, telomeric and subtelomeric regions essential for proper chromosome segregation. Nevertheless, many aspects remain unknown about these processes because of the challenge that represents repetitive DNa elements by itself. The aim of this work is to establish the co-localization of centromeric protein a at satellite DNa in insects cells by Immuno-FISH. Satellite DNa been studied in a few insect species that indicates the evolutionary conservation. This information is essential for future proposals that aim to elucidate the mechanisms in the maintenance of genomic stability and phenotypic plasticity.
