Molecular characterization of isolates of Gardnerella vaginalis in pregnant women in Cali, Colombia abstract Bacterial Vaginosis caused by Gardnerella vaginalis is highly related with abnormal outcomes in pregnancy. Using biochemical phenotypic and genotypic characterization of G. vaginalis isolates this study aims to identify pathogenic biotypes associated with microbiota changes in pregnant women attending gynecologic unit in a hospital in Cali. The knowledge of the pathogenic biotypes in our region may address several policies regarding antimicrobial therapy.
