The findings of this research project will contribute to the understanding of the entrepreneurship phenomenon in Cali, Colombia, identifying the differences of the two ty,pes of entrepreneLtrs, classified by the origin of the entrepreneurial Pontificia tjniversidad .Javet'ia¡ra - Cnli Direccion acadomicn (lc¡lct'a I Coordinacion I¡rstituciortal cle I¡tvestigacion iniciative: entrepreneurs by opportunity and entrepreneurs by necessity. This research will present a comparative analyse of the local and national data sets reported by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) on the 2010 editions. The dimensions to study to characterise the entrepreneur from Cali, are the human capital, the different financial resources that made possible the start-up. Human capital analysis is based on Davidsson and Honing (2003) proposal that measures the explicit and implicit knowledge, and on the motivational factors (Filion, 1997; Gibb and Scott,1986) that influence the entrepreneurial development. This characterization is based also on the reported access to financial resources as a determinant factor on the idea consolidation of the entrepreneurial initiative, from the "peking order" analysis perspective.
