Overview
Personal profile
PhD in Musicology from Princeton University; Master’s in Music Theory from Temple University and in Musicology from Princeton University; and Bachelor’s in Music from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
I have served as a professor in music at Temple University and Princeton University in the United States, as well as at Universidad de los Andes. I have also coordinated the Musicology area of the Music Department at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and was the Director of the Bachelor’s Program in Music Studies at this university from 2017 to 2023.
Currently, I am a lecturer in music theory and analysis at Universidad de los Andes and teach music theory and musicology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. In addition, I serve as the Director of the Master's in Music program at this institution.
My research activities and interests include reflecting on curricula in both secondary and higher education music programs; studying the nature and function of musical signification processes, including musical semiotics; critically analyzing music theory and the analytical approaches employed in the study of music in its sonic dimension; exploring the relationship between music, sound, consciousness, and the spiritual dimension of human experience; and investigating the quality of music education processes concerning the health and well-being of the involved community.
In 2024, I led the systematization, updating, and improvement plan project (SAPP) of the Programa Inspectorial de Bandas Salesianas [Salesian Symphonic Bands Inspectorate Program] (PIBSS), a music instruction program for basic and secondary education that has been developed by several Salesian institutions in Colombia for over a decade.
In addition to my academic activities, I have written music criticism columns for the concert series organized by Colombia's Banco de la República, presented at the Concert Hall of the Luis Ángel Arango Library in Bogotá.
