    Carlos Alberto Suescún Barón is affiliated with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rural and Regional Development within the Faculty of Environmental and Rural Studies. His teaching spans several postgraduate programs, most notably the Master’s in Rural Development, the Master’s in Biodiversity Conservation and Use, the Ph.D. in Environmental and Rural Studies, and the Specialization in Social and Solidarity Economy Enterprise Management. Alongside his teaching, he conducts research across diverse fields, including peasant, popular, and community economies, agrarian reform, and global transitions.

    He has carried out extensive research on macroeconomic theory and policy, rural development, education, and agricultural economics within both the academic and public sectors. He is a member of the research groups "Conflict, Region, and Rural Societies" (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), "Socioeconomics, Institutions, and Development – GSEID," and "Macroeconomics for Justice and Inclusive Growth" (Universidad Nacional de Colombia). Furthermore, he has served as a consultant and advisor on issues concerning economic policy and development.

    The professor's primary research interests encompass agricultural economics, ecological economics, and rural development. Within these focal areas, specific subfields such as studies on agrarian reform and popular economies feature prominently in his work.

    Over the years, the professor has published a considerable number of original research articles and book chapters in highly reputable journals and academic presses. He acts as a peer reviewer for academic journals in the fields of economics, development, and rural affairs, and serves on the editorial board of the journal Cuadernos de Desarrollo Rural (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana).
