Personal profile
Fabio Alexander Sierra Matamoros has been affiliated with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since June 2024, although he has worked as a professor since 2013. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the School of Medicine. He teaches in the Master’s programs in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the Specialization in Quality Management, and the undergraduate Medical program. He conducts research in the area of patient-reported outcome measurement and the design and validation of measurement scales.
His main research interests include the development and application of classical test theory and item response theory methods in the design and validation of scales and questionnaires. He is also interested in health technology assessment, focusing primarily on effectiveness and safety.
Professor Sierra-Matamoros has published several articles on various topics in clinical epidemiology and his aforementioned areas of interest. He has also served as a peer reviewer for manuscripts on scale validation and clinical practice guidelines. Since 2013, he has contributed to teaching a course on the evaluation of clinical effectiveness in the specialization program in Quality Management in Health Services at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Additionally, he has participated in teaching research-related courses in postgraduate medical programs and in the specialization and master's programs in Clinical Epidemiology at the Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud (FUCS), as well as in measurement and scale validation courses in the Master’s program in Clinical Epidemiology at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL).
He previously worked at the Instituto de Evaluación Tecnológica en Salud de Colombia (IETS) as a Senior Epidemiologist and Methods Coordinator in the Evidence Synthesis Unit. During his time there, he developed products such as clinical practice guidelines, evaluations of effectiveness and safety, therapeutic positioning guidelines, clinical pathways, and systematic literature reviews. He was also invited to participate in a panel and workshop on rapid methods for conducting systematic literature reviews at a Cochrane Colombia symposium.
