Overview

Personal profile

I began teaching as an adjunct professor in 1993 and became a full-time faculty member in 2009. My main interests focus on the study of poetry, both in its dimension as a literary genre and in the reality of language that challenges the univocal definitions of a tradition-bound and seemingly unshakable linguistic framework. Spanish literatures of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, as well as those of the Generation of ’98 and the Generation of ’27, have occupied my work for many years. In bringing these corpora into contact with the tradition of Colombian poetry of the twentieth, twenty-first, and twenty-second centuries, I have forged a dialogue that becomes evident in the shaping of a canon and counter-canon—an essential process for understanding the contemporary poetic phenomenon.

Furthermore, my work with a poetry writing workshop within the creative writing track allows my historiographical and theoretical concerns to enter into dialogue with the work of students who are seeking their own authorial horizons.
