Overview

Personal profile

PhD in Public Health from the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico, with additional training in Health Administration (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá) and an MBA with a focus on Health (Universidad Andrés Bello, Chile). A dentist by initial training, she has developed a career spanning over two decades in university teaching, public sector leadership, and applied research.

Her professional experience has been consolidated mainly in academic institutions, from which she has led projects in collaboration with local governments and international organizations. She has directed initiatives in public health, primary health care, oral health, and health policy. She worked at the Public Health Department of Valle del Cauca and served as a consultant to the Ministry of Health of Colombia and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in the evaluation of territorial public health policies.

Her research focuses on primary health care, with an emphasis on understanding the relationships and influences between programmatic service offerings and the effective access and use of services in rural areas, peripheral urban settings, and populations in vulnerable conditions. She has analyzed structural, organizational, and sociocultural barriers that limit both people's access to care and the performance of preventive programs—particularly those related to cervical cancer, tuberculosis, oral health, and collective intervention plans—using qualitative and mixed-method approaches, as well as various health evaluation methodologies. She has served as principal or co-investigator in research projects funded by Minciencias, university research calls, and international cooperation frameworks.

Her academic output has been published in indexed and peer-reviewed journals. She has also worked on educational innovation and research training for professionals across multiple disciplines in the health sector. Her career includes contributions to scientific dissemination through book chapters, technical reports, open educational resources, research methods training for diverse audiences, and MOOCs focused on health promotion and disease prevention.

She is currently a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, and serves as Director of the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, where she promotes graduate education and applied research in coordination with social and institutional stakeholders.
