Overview

Personal profile

Since I obtained my degree as laboratory scientist at the Universidad de los Andes, I have worked for more than 35 years in the field of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (EIM), first at the Center for Research in Biochemistry (CIBI-UNIANDES) and then at the Institute of Inborn Errors of Metabolism of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, participating in the creation of these two, the main reference centers in EIM in Colombia. My work from the clinical point of view has focused on the implementation of diagnostic techniques (basic and confirmatory) for these diseases in our environment and their clinical-biochemical correlation, my research work is also focused on the clinical research of EIM especially focused on the field of organic acidemias and their basic study with reference to the normal population. My teaching work, which began more than 25 years ago, also focuses on the topic of EIM and is developed at all levels of training from undergraduate, both as a teacher of subjects for basic sciences, as a tutor of students in research seedbeds, to tutor postgraduate students in master's and doctoral studies in biological sciences and resident doctors of different specialties (pediatric neurology, neonatology, genetics, etc.) who undertake training internships at the IEIM.During my nearly 35 years of professional practice, I have contributed to the recognition of EIMs in Colombia, making their diagnosis more accessible in our country and disseminating their knowledge among health personnel.
