    My contributions to the development of my career as a researcher are part of an ethnographic study of social and educational inequality among people historically excluded from the education system in Colombia. However, I should clarify that by the expression "historically excluded people," I am referring to young people of African descent and young people from peripheral sectors who live in both large cities and rural areas of the country and who aspire to a place in higher education. In this regard, it should be noted that Morales (2016), citing the Ministry of Higher Education (MEN), has indicated that anyone who has completed basic and secondary education should have the knowledge to compete fairly for a place to study at universities such as the National University, for example. However, the author points out that the institutional regulations governing the principles of access, in addition to appearing unquestionable and incontrovertible, are loaded with value judgments that prioritize certain attributes at the time of access. It could be said that it is against this backdrop that my research and school guidance proposal has emerged, focusing above all on the difficulties or barriers to accessing higher education faced by young people of African descent and from sectors historically excluded from the education system due to their social origin.
