Javier Navarro Rueda has been affiliated with Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since 2022, and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering. He teaches in the Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering programs and conducts research in the areas of Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, 3D+ Technologies, and Medical Device Development.

He has conducted various research projects on regenerative medical devices, cardiovascular medicine, and congenital heart diseases from the engineering and health sector. Professor Navarro is a Mechanical Engineer with a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de los Andes and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Maryland (UMD, MD, US). He has postdoctoral experience in research and teaching at institutions such as Universidad de los Andes, UMD, University of Rochester (UR, NY, US), and Fundación Cardioinfantil - Instituto de Cardiología (LaCardio, Bogotá, COL). He recently served as the Scientific Coordinator of the research program “DELFOS: Programa para el diagnóstico, entrenamiento, logística, formación, organización y seguimiento de pacientes con cardiopatías congénitas” (Universidad de los Andes and LaCardio, MinCiencias program), and as a postdoctoral researcher for the development of the LaCardio Center for 3D Clinical Modeling and Printing. His work focuses on biofabrication, 3D printing technologies, biomaterials and bioresins, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and embryonic regeneration mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on issues related to the cardiovascular system. Additionally, he studies the implementation of 3D technologies (modeling, simulation, 3D printing, virtual reality, and augmented reality) in clinical practice, health professional education, patient education, and the development of medical devices.

Over the years, the professor has published a considerable number of original articles (with over 450 citations) in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. He serves as a reviewer for journals such as the Rapid Prototyping Journal, Journal of 3D Printing in Medicine, ASAIO Journal, and Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.
