    Overview

    Personal profile

Mauricio Quiñones Domínguez is a Colombian applied economist whose research sits at the intersection of income inequality, intragenerational social mobility, public policy evaluation, and the spatial dimensions of urban economic development. He graduated with honours from Universidad del Valle — recognised as the top student of his cohort — before completing a Master of Science in Applied Economics at the same institution and a Ph.D. in Public Policy at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, supported by the competitive Fulbright–Colciencias doctoral fellowship.

He is currently an Associate Professor at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali and leads the Economía–Gestión–Salud (ECGESA) research group, classified A1 by Colombia's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation — the highest tier in the national research group ranking system. His scholarly work spans spatial econometrics, multidimensional poverty and inequality measurement, intragenerational labour mobility, education economics, and redistributive policy evaluation.

From 2018 to 2021, he held a postdoctoral fellowship within PEAK Urban - a major urban research programme funded by the University of Oxford and hosted at Universidad EAFIT, Medellín — where he led the Latin American sub-project on urban economic challenges within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. During this period, he presented his research at the London School of Economics, served as a panellist at the UN-Habitat Urban Forum, and published across leading journals in regional science, urban economics, and social science.

His work has appeared in Spatial Economic Analysis, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, Cities, and Social Science Research, among others. He contributed a chapter to the World Bank's flagship report "Building an Equitable Society in Colombia".
