Personal profile

Mauricio García-Durán is a Jesuit priest, BA in political sciences (University of Los Andes) and in theology (University Javeriana), MA in Philosophy (University Javeriana) and PhD in peace studies (University of Bradford – UK). He has dedicated 35 years to researching and accompanying processes in the fields of armed conflict, peace processes, mobilization for peace, reconciliation and human mobility (forced displacement, migration and refuge). He was director of the Center for Research and Popular Education / Program for Peace (CINEP / PPP), coordinator of the Jesuit Network with Migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean; director of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Colombia and Latin America. He participated as synodal father in the Amazon Synod held in Rome between October 6 and 27, 2019. For 10 years he has been a professor of the chair of “Forgiveness and Reconciliation” at the Javeriana University in Cali and since January 2023 he has been the director of the new PhD in Peace Studies. He has published 11 books and 85 articles or chapters on the aforementioned topics.
