María Elizabeth Gómez Neva has been affiliated with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since 2016 and currently serves as an Instructor Faculty member in the Department of Clinical Nursing. She is involved in teaching activities in undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as conducting research in the field of Nursing. Her main research areas focus on unpleasant symptoms in cancer and vascular access. She is currently recognized as an Associate Researcher by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia.
She has led multiple research projects aimed at determining the effects of distraction during painful procedures such as venipuncture. In addition, she has contributed to the documentation of theories and interventions related to the management of unpleasant symptoms in patients with cancer. As part of her research activities, she leads the development of institutional vascular access registries designed to strengthen research, patient safety, and quality of care. She is the leader of the ENONPAL research seedbed and a member of the Association of Epidemiologists of Colombia.
Her main academic and scientific interests include clinical epidemiology, statistics and data science applied to healthcare, symptom management in oncology, and vascular access. Her research career has resulted in approximately 94 citations across various scientific publications.
Professor Gómez Neva has published original articles in national and international peer-reviewed scientific journals and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals. In addition, she has participated as a member of several ethics and research committees at the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio and CAIMED.
