My research and teaching interests focus on critical reflection on society, technology, and nature from the perspective of bioethics and in dialogue with the social sciences, especially history and anthropology.

I am currently part of the Climate Justice and Carbon research group, along with Nathalia Hernández Vida, University of Oregon at Eugene, Nelsa De la Hoz, independent researcher, and Diego Silva Garzón, Geneva Graduate Institute. There, I developed two interrelated ethnographic research projects: 1. What is the Value of a Forest? Environmental Justice, Territorial Rights, and Conservation Policies in REDD+ Programs in the Colombian Amazon, with funding from the Universidad Javeriana; and 2. Counting Carbon: The Shaping of Low-Carbon Landscapes and Environmental Justice in Colombia, with funding from Shaila Galvin, Geneva Graduate Institute, and a Consolidation Grant from the Swiss government.

I previously researched the debates surrounding the use and development of biotechnology in the fields of agriculture, food, and environmental conservation, and its relationship with intellectual property rights over plant material. I also conducted ethnographic research with peasant, raizal, and Indigenous peoples on initiatives for the conservation of biocultural diversity and associated local knowledge, agri-food models, and food sovereignty.

I belong to the Bioethics Research Group at Javeriana University, the Just Transitions and Care for Our Common Home Working Group of CLACSO, and the Food, Agriculture, and Rural Studies Section of the Latin American Studies Association LASA.
