Juan Esteban Santamaría Rodríguez has been associated with the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since 2020 and is currently an assistant professor in the Faculty of Theology. He teaches at the Center for Theological Formation and conducts research in the field of theology, education, international justice and peace-building processes.
He has developed several research projects. At the theological level, in the fields of theology, education, international justice and peace and reconciliation processes. He is coordinator of the interdisciplinary team of teaching and theological research 'Didaskalia' of the Faculty of Theology and the field 'Theology and culture' of the Center for Theological Formation. He is a visiting professor at the Ibero-American Institute of The Hague for Peace, International Justice and Human Rights, the International Research Group 'Ignacio Ellacuría' and various inter-university academic networks.
The main research interests of the professor are in his areas of expertise. At the theological level, in the fields of pastoral theology, theological education, Latin American theology, contextual theologies and theological method. At the pedagogical level, in the fields of higher education, Latin American pedagogies, popular education and systematization of pedagogical experiences. At the level of justice, peace and reconciliation processes, from the narrative and audiovisual documentation of peace and reconciliation processes, education for peace, international justice and accompaniment of processes of reincorporation into civilian life of former members of armed groups outside the law.
Juan Esteban has published over the years a considerable number of articles in indexed and popular journals (h-index 12, i10-index 15, citations: 579). He has also authored several books on theology, pedagogy, justice and peace and reconciliation processes. Finally, he is an evaluator of the academic journals Perspectiva Teológica (Brazil) and Theologica Xaveriana (Colombia) in the areas of pastoral theology, theology of action, theological hermeneutics, Christian spirituality and theological education.
