    Researcher, lecturer, and consultant with over 20 years of experience in conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Colombia and other Latin American countries, with a special interest in development in transformed urban and rural environments. He possesses a high-level academic background that includes an undergraduate degree in Biology from the Universidad de los Andes, a master's degree in Protected Natural Spaces from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

    Since 2009, he has been a professor and researcher at the Facultad de Estudios Ambientales y Rurales at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Faculty of Environmental and Rural Studies at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), where he has been engaged in knowledge generation processes concerning the relationships between society and nature in urban and rural settings. In particular, he has been understanding the responses of ecosystems and biodiversity to human transformations and the impacts these have on ecosystem services that link them to people's quality of life. Additionally, he has been promoting projects that incorporate ecosystems, biodiversity, and ecosystem services into territorial planning processes, through the use of frameworks such as Green Infrastructure and Nature-Based Solutions, all aimed at driving sustainability transition processes in urban environments and rural productive systems. He was also the director of the Maestría en Gestión Ambiental (Master's program in Environmental Management) for 6 years, achieving its high-quality re-accreditation.

    He has taught various courses related to both research and biodiversity conservation topics, advising over 60 undergraduate and postgraduate theses. Likewise, he has published several articles in high-impact journals, as well as books aimed at disseminating knowledge about the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity conservation.

    Furthermore, he has been a researcher, consultant, and advisor for various public and private institutions and organizations, such as the Instituto Alexander von Humboldt (Alexander von Humboldt Institute), the UICN del Mediterráneo (IUCN Mediterranean), the Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible de Colombia (Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia), the Secretaría de Ambiente de Bogotá (Secretariat of Environment of Bogotá), WWF-Colombia, USAID, and the Departamento Nacional de Planeación (National Planning Department).
