Jaime Aguilar is a professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Automation from Universidad del Valle (Colombia), and a Ph.D. in Engineering Projects and Innovation from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain).

From 1998 to 2004, he served as Head of the Electronic Engineering Program at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana – Cali. He later held the position of Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences from 2014 to 2020.

Between 2020 and 2023, he led the Institutional Strengthening component of the OMICAS research program, an interinstitutional initiative focused on improving agricultural productivity through omics sciences and engineering. OMICAS is part of the Colombia Científica initiative and involves collaboration among universities, companies, and agricultural research centers worldwide (www.omicas.co).

Professor Aguilar conducts research in product design and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams. Together with one of these teams, he developed UBICU, an assistive device for remote respiratory physiotherapy, created to support patients with post-COVID-19 conditions.

He is the inventor of three patents and has received three academic awardstwo from CIDESCO and one from ACOFI—in recognition of his contributions to engineering education and innovation.
