Personal profile

Esther de Vries has been working at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since 2016 and is currently a full professor in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Faculty of Medicine. She works as Director of the Doctorate in Clinical Epidemiology and has teaching tasks in the Master's and Doctorate in Clinical Epidemiology. She is also a representative of the Academy in the Global Initiative for the Development of Population-Based Cancer Registries - Latin America region. As of january 2024 she is also a Honorary Senior Lecturer for the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen´s University Belfast.


Her main research areas are in the field of cancer epidemiology, population- and institutional-based disease registries, and palliative care and end-of-life medical decisions. Research results in the areas of end of life and palliative care are available on the Proyecto Colibrí page. Esther has published more than 200 original articles in highly reputed international peer-reviewed journals, and is a reviewer for many international journals as well - on the topics of her research interest.
