Edgar Eduardo Muñoz Díaz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, with a solid and well-recognized academic, research, and professional trajectory in the fields of structural engineering and bridge engineering, built over more than two decades of continuous practice in higher education.
His work focuses on structural reliability, seismic vulnerability, structural instrumentation and monitoring, as well as the management, assessment, design, and performance of bridges, with particular emphasis on their behavior under real loading, service, and environmental conditions. These lines of work have made significant contributions to strengthening technical knowledge applied to roadway infrastructure in Colombia.
He has actively participated in applied research projects related to infrastructure management systems, probabilistic methods for structural assessment, and the inspection, maintenance, conservation, and rehabilitation of bridges, many of which have had direct impact on professional practice, sector institutions, and advanced engineering training processes.
As part of his academic contributions, he has been an author and co-author of specialized books in bridge engineering, most notably Bridge Engineering, Volume 4, a work that received the Diodoro Sánchez Award (2012), one of the most prestigious academic recognitions in the field of civil engineering in Colombia, granted for its contribution to the country’s technical and scientific development. In addition, he has published articles in national and international journals and academic conferences, further consolidating his recognition as a leading academic reference in the areas of bridges and structures.
His career positions him as a national reference in the study, teaching, and analysis of bridges in Colombia, combining academic rigor, applied research, and professional experience, with a sustained commitment to the comprehensive education of engineers and the improvement of the country’s infrastructure.
