    ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

Civil Engineering Department. Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. Colombia.

o Director of the Department of Civil Engineering, 2014 - 2020:

This academic management assignment was based on the following pillars: high quality standards in academic work in teaching, research and service; strengthening the physical plant and laboratory equipment; continuous support to undergraduate and graduate academic programs, offering support in both ordinary and extraordinary processes (curricular reforms and high quality accreditations); transparency and organization in administrative matters, constant communication with professors, and obtaining the best organizational climate indicator of the School of Engineering in the period 2014-2020. The number of Ph.D. professors increased from 52% to 68%, two research groups were ranked in category A1 and two in category A, the number of senior researchers increased from 4 to 9, and 6700 million COP in resources for research and consulting were obtained between 2014 and 2020.

o Director of the Civil Engineering Laboratory, 2006 - 2014:

During this academic-administrative leadership role, the Civil Engineering Laboratory had the highest historical growth of the decade and improved various research and service indicators. External service billings increased by 200%, 63 journal articles were generated with laboratory support in 8 years, and more than $1 million USD in equipment was purchased.

    o    Assistant professor, 2003 – 2008. Full time.

o    Associate professor, 2009-2023. Full time.

o    Full professor, since 2024. Full time.

I have taught seven different engineering subjects in Civil Engineering degree at the Civil Engineering Department of Engineering School of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. I have also lectured postgraduate classes in civil engineering master’s degree. The courses are:  Statics, Civil Engineering Introduction, Structural Analysis, Materials, Structural Dynamics, Structures Laboratory, Capstone Project. I have supervised 62 final year projects, 53 of Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and 9 of Master of Science in Civil Engineering.

    TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

I was part of the team of researchers that allowed the structural system of the Metecno company to be part of the Colombian Earthquake Resistant Regulations for the construction of priority and emergency housing.

The research carried out in the last 20 years for the seismic rehabilitation of historic earthen buildings was included in the Colombian regulations for earthquake resistant constructions (2019). The research results are part of the public policies for the conservation of the Colombian earthen heritage buildings.
