Amanda Varela Ramírez has been linked to the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana since 1994 and is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Biology. He teaches in the Biology Program and the Industrial Microbiology Program. She also participates as a teacher in the Master's and Doctorate in Biological Sciences program of the Faculty of Sciences. He carries out research in functional soil ecology and biological control using microorganisms.
He has developed various research in edaphic processes modified by anthropic disturbances (land use change, global climate change) and natural disturbances (floods, fires) on the functioning of the ecosystem and microbial communities, uses of biochar on green roofs, agriculture, and soil rehabilitation, microbial functional diversity and its application potential, plant pathology in natural ecosystems. She has been Coordinator of the Ecology Unit research group and Systematics (UNESIS), President of the Colombian Society of Entomology, and founding member of the Colombian Association of Mycology and the International Conservation Fungal Society. He directs the Laboratory of Ecology of Tropical Soils and Fungi. The professor's central research interest concerns the functional ecology of soils in natural and anthropic environments. The professor has published articles in national and international journals and book chapters. He is part of national and international scientific organizations in mycology, soils, entomology, and zoology.
